Job Description
The Ontario Line North – Elevated Guideway and Stations project team is seeking a Legal Counsel with strong experience in the construction industry. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the selected individual will provide legal leadership and support to Trillium Guideway Partners, a partnership between Acciona Infrastructure Canada and Amico Major Projects. 


  • Advising the project team in respect of matters relating to the Development and Master Construction Agreement (“DMCA”) and legal risk.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing subcontracts and template documents (including supply/purchase agreements, professional services agreements, etc.) in collaboration with the Procurement department.
  • Providing advice regarding the Construction Act.
  • Supporting the management of subcontractor litigation and other dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable insurance requirements in collaboration with commercial and insurance teams.
  • Providing support to the construction team in respect of property and permit matters.
  • Advising the contract management team in respect of administration of contracts being performed (including design agreements and subcontracts).
  • Drafting and reviewing correspondence in support of DMCA variations and claims in collaboration with the commercial and contract management teams
  • Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda.
  • Providing training in respect of the DMCA, standard form agreements, general contracting practices and compliance-related topics (including safety matters)
  • Being first point of contact for legal management of regulatory matters affecting the project.
  • Liaising with Acciona’s and Amico’s Corporate Legal Department and external legal counsel.


Required Skills and Competencies
  • An active member, in good standing, of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of full-time experience specifically in construction litigation or construction counsel roles.
  • Demonstrated working experience/knowledge of commercial contract laws.
  • Experience on progressive/collaborative contracting models and other large complex construction projects is a significant asset.
  • Strong verbal reasoning skills with the ability to interpret the precise definition of written documents such as contracts, legislation and case decisions.
  • Effective communicator, negotiator and consensus builder and can effectively influence without formal authority and work collaboratively with colleagues and divergent stakeholder positions.

The position is in-office, full-time based out of Trillium Guideway Partners’ downtown project office, at 2 Queen Street East. This location offers a dynamic work environment where the selected individual will collaborate closely with other project team members, the client and stakeholders at our co-located office.
