The Contracts Manager role is a member of a small dynamic team of lawyers and contracts specialists who oversee a portfolio of custom corporate agreements with business, enterprise and public sector clients nationally. Working in close partnership with internal stakeholders (notably Sales, Pricing, Product, Legal, Regulatory, Finance, and Leadership Teams), you will advise on risk and compliance for corporate contracts.

What You’ll Do

You are an excellent negotiator with the ability to influence outcomes and drive deals to a close. An ability to build relationships and to communicate complex contractual terms in a clear and concise manner is key, as well as a proven ability to juggle numerous deliverables under tight timelines. The Contracts Manager reports to the Manager, Products & Services.

  • Draft, deliver, and review custom corporate agreements, under tight timelines
  • Cooperate with internal stakeholders with respect to commercial legal aspects of a deal
  • Advise on compliance, risk, strategy and positioning of contractual terms to assist internal teams in decision-making
  • Assist and participate in negotiations with corporate customers with a view of minimizing risk to TELUS
  • Collaborate with Product and Legal teams to draft and review terms and conditions for new product offerings
  • Ensure consistent application of contracts, as well as compliance with regulatory and internal contractual requirements
  • Develop legal contractual responses for Request for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Recommend changes to standard contract templates based on regulatory and technological landscape, business practices, as well as with a view of assuring revenue to TELUS
  • Provide training to internal teams to ensure compliance, and an understanding of contractual issues and processes

Qualifications

What you bring

  • Law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited university
  • Member in good standing of a Canadian bar association or law society
  • 2-5 years of experience in contract management and/or commercial law
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation and influence skills Must be able to take a lead role in recommending course of action during complex negotiations
  • Strong business and financial acumen Ability to apply strategic judgment based on financial and risk analysis
  • Proven ability to build relationships and to maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders, including senior leaders
  • Thrives in a fast paced environment, with the ability to manage a number of deliverables under tight timelines
  • Highly competent user of MS Office

Great-to-haves

  • Bilingual (French/English)
  • Undergraduate degree in Business or related field
  • Industry experience in IT or telecommunications
