Department Overview

Counsel, Wealth Legal, will be a member of the Canadian Wealth Management Legal Team located in Toronto. The Canadian Wealth Management Legal Team consists of lawyers focused on providing advice and counsel to TD’s Canadian wealth and asset management businesses.

Job Description

In this role, you will join a dynamic and collegial team of legal professionals and be involved in a wide range of activities working to advance strategic priorities while ensuring proper risk management. You will work closely with TD Legal colleagues, external counsel and other partners across the TD Wealth businesses.

Your focus will be on TD Wealth’s distribution businesses, including TD Waterhouse Canada Inc., TD Investment Services Inc., including supporting regulatory change-related projects.
You will:

  • Work collaboratively with the business, support functions and with other members of TD Legal to deliver high-quality and coordinated legal advice and support
  • Support regulatory developments impacting TD Wealth, including participation on internal working groups as well as external industry association working groups, such as IIAC and the CBA
  • Assist in the review and drafting of agreements, client documentation, marketing materials and disclosures
  • Contribute to high priority special projects and broader TD Legal Department initiatives

Requirements

  • You have a law degree from an accredited law school, and you are qualified to practice law in Ontario
  • You have relevant experience in securities law with a major law firm, financial institution, financial or capital markets regulator, wealth firm or in-house at a large corporation
  • You have good analytical and communication skills
  • You can manage multiple deadlines and priorities while paying attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. You are an independent thinker with excellent judgment, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple partners
  • High energy and enthusiastic
