The Role: Legal Counsel

Who are you?
Working closely with the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel role is responsible for all legal matters relevant to the Company including regulatory, negotiation of commercial agreements, corporatefinance, governance, contract management, employment, IP etc., procuring advice from outside counsel where required The role collaborates with Senior Leaders, Project Managers, Senior Engineers and R&D Scientists.

Responsibilities:
  • Review, negotiate, and draft commercial agreements both with suppliers to the business and customers of the business
  • Identify policies required and draft, socialize and implement such policies
  • Support the senior management team in establishing key partnerships that will advance our technology and business.
  • Advise internal teams on a broad spectrum of legal and business issues, including contractual commitments, industry-specific compliance obligations, and intellectual property rights (licensing-in and licensing-out).

Qualifications & Experience:
  • 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing lawyer
  • Juris Doctor or LLB from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in British Columbia
  • Experience establishing and running and in-house legal department would be an asset
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Experience in a specialized field such as labor and employment, IP, commercial agreements would be an asset
  • Problem solving, risk management and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills; must be able to articulately and concisely explain and advocate for company’s positions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Establish customer and partner agreements to further Svante’s grow and minimize risk
  • Assist in the initial organization and running of an in-house legal department
