The Legal Counsel will provide legal advice to all AVEVA business functions in Canada. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be a trusted advisor who is customer service oriented and has an eagerness to tackle a wide range of legal and business issues. A successful candidate will can also balance legal risks with business objectives to help internal clients successfully carry out their roles in a timely manner, all with a positive attitude.

The Legal Counsel will also provide counsel regarding compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies. He/she will be required to work closely with colleagues around the globe to support the Associate General Counsel, in addition to working with other business teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES: You Will Do

• Maintain current knowledge of, and support compliance with, applicable laws and regulations
• Cultivate positive and influential working relationships with key members of the department and the members of management in Human Resources, Real Estate, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Tax, Research and Development and other departments
• Provide pragmatic legal and commercial advice, generally, within North America by summarizing and communicating legal concepts to management and employees in the field
• Lead training for members of management and field employees on relevant topics of legal significance
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers of materials, equipment, systems, facilities, and services that support AVEVA’s business within an agreed approval matrix and legal policy framework
• Coordinate regularly with AVEVA’s global legal resource for employment law to ensure alignment within the region to AVEVA’s global standards and local law and regulation
• Assist in reviewing and revising current processes, structures and procedures for efficiency and support projects and initiatives to realign and streamline same
• Assist in developing, maintaining and updating legal systems and records
• Liaise with external counsel and relevant authorities
• Work on special projects as requested

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, & QUALIFICATIONS: You Will Have

• Law degree from a well-regarded law school and member in good standing of at least one provincial bar association
• 5+ years work experience as an in-house or law firm attorney with progressive, relevant experience in business law
• Ability to quickly identify and analyze problems to form an opinion and offer practical advice to the business
• Pays strong attention to detail and possesses commitment to excellent internal client service
• Possess high-level legal drafting and negotiation skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Work effectively in both team and independent settings with the ability to work cross-functionally
• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently
• Be a self-starter who can work independently and manage many simultaneous projects under deadline pressure
