Salary Range: $78,000 – 85,000 per annum plus benefits

About the Position  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Manager works very closely with the Supervising Lawyer, Education to advance Rise’s strategic focus areas of learning and systems change.  

The Education Manager works with teams across the organization providing strategic direction, planning, implementation and evaluation of educational initiatives. There is no expectation that the Education Manager will provide the training but there are no restrictions if the right candidate has previous experience in delivering training in the subject matter.  

The Education Manager manages a variety of educational initiatives at Rise, including production of original Public Legal Education and Information (PLEI), research reports, paid training provided through the social enterprise, online and in-person training offerings and Rise’s e-learning platform. 

The Education Manager is responsible for communication of educational initiatives through the Rise website, and other communication platforms used by Rise.  The Education Manager works as the contact person between Rise staff and external contractors - designers, translators, subject experts, involved in the production of educational outputs. The

Education Manager also works as the contact person for all education, research and training related inquiries from community organizations, law firms, and all stakeholders the organization works with.  

Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning, Implementation and Evaluation 
• In collaboration with the Executive Director and Supervising Lawyer, Education provides strategic direction for Rise’s paid educational initiatives. 
• Works with the Executive Director and Rise staff to ensure allocated budgets are spent within the fiscal year including receiving invoices from vendors. 
• In collaboration with the Supervising Lawyer, Education creates an annual workplan including deliverables, timelines, training offerings, pricing for the educational initiatives. 
• Ensures that fresh, relevant, and accessible content is being developed and shared, and that Rise is attentive to ensuring that a variety of voices are heard when Rise develops new educational resources 
•  In collaboration with the Finance team, implements the financial processes, for all paid educational initiatives 
• In consultation with the Marketing Consultant, and Supervising Lawyer, Education, implements a marketing and communication strategy.  
• Identifies, collects and interprets evaluation metrics for various educational initiatives and ensures that evaluation data is used in annual planning for the following year. 


Coordination with Program Staff 
• In consultation with Supervising Lawyer, Education, and Rise staff, maintain a database of all educational offerings to avoid duplication and maximize reach of training resources. 
• Works with Rise staff authors to prepare workplan, timeline, and coordinates the publication of Rise’s PLEI. 
• Provides support to the research team in planning the research projects, including workplan and timeline for production of research outputs. 
• Works with Rise staff to coordinate training provided to external stakeholders and oversee the production of educational videos.  
• Manages paid training content created for lawyers and organizations. 
• In collaboration with the Finance team, issues invoices and keeps track of payments. 
• In collaboration with the VLC Supervising Lawyer, maintains Rise’s Legal Counsel Connect, monitors progress, and provides support in implementation. 

Coordination with External Stakeholders 
• Works with external contractors for production of educational outputs – designers, editors, graphic illustrators, interpreters, translators, when needed.  
• Networks with other community organizations to stay current on issues affecting the community to ensure that resources are responsive to community and stakeholder needs and to identify opportunities to collaborate with subject matter experts on topics of interest. 
• Collaborates with external contractor(s) to optimize Rise’s website features. 

Technical support  
• Creates and maintains educational platform (Thinkific), including approving access and registration. Integrates new features and tools to ensure the end products meet the ongoing needs of Rise and the community. 
• Oversees the production of the Rise’s bi-weekly podcast. The Education Manager is responsible for editing and releasing recorded episodes through Rise’s podcast platform.   
• Manages online training events and other virtual events to build awareness, which may include providing or contracting out technical support, organizing speakers, and managing online registration. 
• Provides support to Rise staff when they provide training at conferences and organizations by coordinating logistics, agreements, honorarium payments, and post training action items, such as feedback and surveys with host organizations. 
• Supports Rise staff with training materials, including design, branding and dissemination of materials post training. 
• Works with Rise staff to develop social media, other content, and events to promote Rise’s educational and training events and disseminate information. 
• Manages webinars and/or events for report launches and provides support to Rise staff as needed. 

Communications 
• Responds to all education and research related inquiries from community, legal and other organizations. 
• Maintains and updates Rise’s website to ensure that clients, community partners, advocates, and lawyers can access programs and educational resources.  
• Monitors analytics and creates reports detailing the effectiveness of Rise’s website. 
• Updates Rise’s website and educational platform (Thinkific) to ensure external stakeholders are informed about and can access educational resources. 
• In consultation with fund development manager, implements an education related communications calendar that reflects all planned communications and events throughout the year. 
• With fund development manager, maintains contact lists to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are notified of upcoming events. If appropriate, creates and disseminates marketing materials. 
• Identifies and presents opportunities to expand audience reach. 

General 
• Participate in systemic meetings, and other community engagements activities. 

Working Conditions 
• Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week (inclusive of 2.5 hours of unpaid break)

Qualifications 

Education: Degree in a relevant discipline such as communications, marketing, public relations 

Professional Certifications: n/a 
  • Experience: Three to five years’ experience in a communications or program management role, ideally in the social service/charitable sector or demonstrated relevant experience. 
  • Experience with website design and management (no coding skills required) 
  • Experience working with CRM systems and educational platforms. 
  • Experience with Microsoft publisher/in-design/canva an asset, and design of printed and electronic materials an asset. 
  • Experience with creating and marketing educational outputs, such as online courses (asset).  

Knowledge: Best practice communications strategies and practices in the not-for-profit sector. Understanding of legal resources in BC (asset).
