As Legal Counsel you will report to VP of Legal, Compliance & People and will play an integral role in supporting PointsBet Canada's continued growth and success.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • Drafting, drafting and drafting! Responsible for drafting and revising a variety of commercial agreements that come down the pipeline, as well as negotiating such agreements
  • Be the final line of review for all commercial agreements, with no oversight required
  • Stay up to date on applicable gaming laws, regulations, policies, case law etc. affecting the business, and reporting same to the VP, Legal, Compliance & People
  • Be aware of other laws affecting the business such as privacy and anti-spam, marketing and advertising
  • Work with our legal and compliance team to respond to inquiries
  • Willingness to be involved in the compliance function when required
  • Create and support continuous improvements of forms, policies, and processes to help streamline, simplify, and automate support
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English
  • Ability to think ahead and help minimize risks that may arise
  • Other legal/compliance-related research or tasks as assigned


SKILLS WE SEEK

  • JD/LLB
  • A member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Called to the Bar in 2019 or earlier
  • 2-5 years as a practicing lawyer in Canada
  • Large law firm experience preferred
  • Strong ability to draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements
  • Understanding of general corporate law and privacy law
  • Knowledge of major laws and legal issues affecting the gaming industry
  • A background in compliance or a regulated industry
  • Knowledge of privacy law preferred
  • A demonstrated interest in tech, fintech, gaming & gambling, media, or other regulated industry
  • Sound and practical business judgment and ability to handle pressure and manage multiple, high priority, competing projects and deadlines
  • A desire to provide pragmatic advice to the business teams that are moving quickly
  • Comfort serving as a trusted business advisor
  • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of people and teams, both internal and external
  • A team player with a sense of self-awareness and a collaborative attitude
  • Strong work ethic. Is accountable, works smart and pushes self and others for results
  • Relates and works cooperatively with people across levels, functions, culture, and geography to achieve shared goals
  • Self-starter with the ability to think and work independently and in a group environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and is effective in a variety of communication settings i.e. one to one, small and large groups, and among diverse styles and position levels
  • Practical and innovative and comes up with useful ideas that are new, better, or unique.
  • Learns quickly. Takes on the challenge of unfamiliar tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends during busy periods of the sports calendar
