Job Description


People Corporation is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team in Winnipeg.

Reporting to People Corporation’s Vice President, Legal; the Legal Counsel will be part of a team that oversees a broad range of legal matters. The Legal Counsel will focus primarily on corporate law matters and will support People Corporation’s Corporate Development department in negotiating and carrying out M&A transactions.


The Legal Counsel will:

  • Support M&A activity by working effectively and efficiently with the Corporate Development department to draft and negotiate transaction documents and provide advice regarding transaction structures.
  • Liaise and collaborate with external counsel and opposing counsel; as well as with lenders, landlords, regulators and other third parties regarding transactions, and provide related advice to the business.
  • Provide general legal support and advice in the areas of corporate and commercial law.
  • Review and advise the business on complex commercial contracts, business structures and arrangements.
  • Draft and review various commercial agreements.
  • Deal with internal corporate legal matters including share issuances/transactions and maintaining internal corporate legal records.
  • Develop practical solutions to meet business needs while ensuring legal compliance and high ethical standards are maintained.
  • Manage legal projects and matters from commencement to completion.
  • Produce a large volume of quality legal work on a timely basis.
  • Identify and managing legal risks and issues and provide solutions.
  • Provide support to the business and the legal department across a broad range of legal areas as required.


To be successful as a Legal Counsel with People Corporation, you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) and be legally eligible to practice law in the province of Manitoba.
  • 1-3 years’ experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • Experience and knowledge in the areas of corporate and commercial law.
  • Sound drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to provide advice on complex legal matters.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • The desire to develop a broad legal skillset and contribute to different areas across the organization.
