The Role

This legal function is key to Nitro’s current growth strategy. As a provider of mainly SaaS services in the space of workflow productivity (for example Nitro PDF Pro and Nitro Sign), we handle some of our customer’s most sensitive data. As also our business keeps expanding internationally, our legal department needs reinforcement. That’s why Nitro is looking for a hands-on legal counsel who enables our Sales and Business teams to scale and grow in a compliant and safe environment.

We are building an international legal team and for this particular role we are looking for a true team player who is capable of supporting our team in NAMER and APAC. The main focus in this role will be on commercial contract negotiations and data protection, but also to manage general legal request within the region, if needed with external advisors. You will be the main point of contact within your region for legal requests.

Mission

As a Legal Counsel

You will contribute to Nitro’s strategic growth by being a true partner for our Sales and Business teams and assist them in complex contract negotiations. You will also collaborate with security and compliance teams, ensuring our products and services are being developed in a secure and compliant way. You will be involved in designing legal operations and setting up processes to make workstreams more efficient. In tight collaboration with our Legal Counsel (Europe), you will design the future legal roadmap for Nitro and assist in implementing it. You will have to prioritize and paint the bigger picture behind individual ideas or features.

Examples of topics you’ll be expected to contribute to:
  • Draft Terms of Service for SaaS services for NAMER and APAC region;
  • Negotiate complex SaaS agreements and data processing agreements;
  • Advise on implementing local data protection legislation within your region;
  • Execute and implement new legal processes to make our business as efficient as possible;
  • Review vendor agreements and advise the business in mitigating risks;
  • Advise the product team in how to develop compliant functions and features within the products we offer;
  • Do research on compliancy with local legislation;
  • Be a true business partner to different teams and manage legal request which might be out of tour comfort zone (HR, corporate, etc.)
You will also assist our DPO Office, currently consisting of our Head of Compliance, VP Product eSign (@Filip Verreth) and Legal Counsel .

You will contribute to building a transparent and business enabling Legal function, in line with Nitro’s focus on empowering the team. We’d also love you to contribute your ideas to improve our legal operations, especially on the contracts and privacy side.

Hard Skills We'll Be Looking For

  • Strong written communication skills and structure, demonstrated through experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Great negotiations skills
  • Good knowledge on technical aspects of doing business as a SaaS company
  • A very good level of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to simplify and propose clear trade-offs and solutions, as you’ll need to interact with non-lawyers on a daily basis.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Privacy, IT and technology advisory at a law firm or in-house at a technology SaaS company, working with product and sales teams.
