This position will work primarily with our California Chapter, as well as potentially other state chapters in the western United States. The Attorney II will be willing to work primarily in the Pacific Time and Mountain Time Zones. The Attorney II will provide legal services on complex matters to advance TNC’s priorities and appropriately manage risk. They will ensure that transactions and activities are legally sound and consistent with the mission, authority, policies, and procedures. They will clearly articulate complex legal concepts and options to assigned programs. They’ll also need to travel occasionally and work long or flexible hours as needed. 

The Attorney II will work directly with state chapter project staff, senior management, and leadership on various conservation strategies of the chapter, including but not limited to: conducting conservation land acquisitions; supporting staff on compliance, land use, contracting, and other matters regarding the effective stewardship of TNC’s protected lands and waters; advising and negotiating on public and private funding arrangements and implementing restoration projects and other programs.

TNC’s Global Legal Team, West-Canada Division, is seeking an experienced, creative attorney with broad transactional experience, initiative, and strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $95,000 – $150,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
