Lawyer – Municipal, Planning, and Land Development Law (0–2 Years Experience)
Michael Nemanic Law Professional Corporation is a small law firm dedicated to helping landowners, developers, builders, and resident associations navigate the complex world of municipal, planning, and land development law.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Lawyer (0–2 years of experience) to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior lawyer with a genuine interest in municipal and planning law to grow in their career.
Your responsibilities will be to provide legal advice and support on matters involving municipal planning, land use, and development. There will be some related civil litigation.
You will have primary and first-point-of-contact (but supervised) carriage over Minor Variance and Consent appeals and will assist with Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments; Site Plan Control Approvals; Heritage Appeals; Plans of Subdivision and Condominium; Expropriation; and Development Charges, Cash-in-lieu of Parkland, and Community Benefits Charges.
You will conduct legal research, prepare submissions, and assist in proceedings before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) and Toronto Appeal Local Appeal Body (TLAB).
You are a junior lawyer and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
An Undergraduate degree in urban planning or architecture is considered a major asset but is not required. 0–2 years of experience in municipal, planning, and development law and strong legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills is, however, required. Candidates who do not have experience or a demonstrated interest in OLT and TLAB matters will not be considered.
This is a remote work environment with limited in-office presence being required on an occasional and as-needed basis (once a week, at most, for 2- to 3.5-hours).
The base compensation will be between $75,000 to $95,000 with a 10% to 15% annual bonus and a 10% file origination fee. Additional compensation is negotiable depending on the candidate's qualifications.
Interested candidates are invited to send their cover letter, resume, and academic transcripts to info@michaelnemaniclaw.com with the subject line: Application – Junior Lawyer (Municipal & Planning Law). The cover letter should describe your experience with one or two TLAB or OLT appeals.
Thank you for your interest!
