Legal Counsel acts both as a legal advisor to, and as a representative of, the Board and Employment Standards Tribunal.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the following education and experience criteria:
- Degree in law from a recognized university
- Membership in good standing with, or eligibility to join, the Law Society of British Columbia
- Up to 10 years called to the bar preferred
- Knowledge of the Labour Relations Code, the Employment Standards Act, the Administrative Tribunals Act, the Human Rights Code and other legislation relating to labour relations, employment standards, and administrative law
- Knowledge of administrative law principles
- Demonstrated experience in providing advice and/or preparing opinions on labour relations, employment standards, and administrative law
- Demonstrated experience in legal research, writing, and analysis
- Experience appearing before the BC Labour Relations Board, the BC Employment Standards Tribunal, and/or a labour arbitrator.
- Experience appearing before the BC Supreme Court and/or the BC Court of Appeal
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Wages and benefits:
- Wages established by the BC Government Legal Counsel salary grid based on year of call: $105, 810.90 - $272, 674.15 * (Progression through Level 4 Legal Counsel Grid is discretionary).
- Access to the Public Service Superannuation Plan
- Benefits as set out in the LRB Staff Association collective agreement
- The option to work a 9-day fortnight
Staff are also able to work remotely, as operational needs permit, in accordance with the Board's Remote Work Policy and Agreement
