Sexual Harassment Information, Education, Legal Direction (SHIELD)
The Human Rights Legal Support Centre (HRLSC) provides a broad range of free legal assistance to individuals throughout Ontario who have experienced discrimination contrary to Ontario’s Human Rights Code. The HRLSC is seeking applications for a Human Rights Representative (HRR) to provide legal information and immediate summary advice over the telephone to individuals who have experienced sexual harassment, violence and / or assault in the workplace, and need assistance in understanding all of their legal options. The HRR (SHIELD) will participate and work in collaboration with other members of the SHIELD team and will promote stakeholder and public awareness of SHIELD services.
Qualifications include the ability to interpret and communicate Ontario human rights legislation (Ontario’s Human Rights Code and sexual harassment in the workplace legislation), including relevant legal principles and legal options, and the ability to record detailed information / prepare summaries in a high paced environment. The successful applicant will have familiarity with human rights issues affecting Francophone communities in Ontario, strong knowledge of the legal system as it applies to adjudicative boards and tribunals, excellent knowledge of community resources, the effective ability to communicate clearly and sensitively in French and English with diverse communities and will have strong interviewing, listening, explaining and counseling / representation skills. Computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and experience using a case management or data base system are required. Full Job Description This is a full-time, contract position until March 2027, and is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit. Please note that this position is contingent on time-limited special funding. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring two (2) days in the Toronto office and three (3) days of remote work from home each week. This arrangement may be subject to change as part of the HRLSC’s Recovery Plan process. Salary range for this position is $60,901 - $78,469. The usual hours of work are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
