Investigation Case Manager/Litigation Paralegal (Maternity Leave Coverage)

Forte Workplace Law is looking for an Investigations Case Manager/Litigation Paralegal to provide 18 months of coverage for a maternity leave to support our team of workplace investigators and our rapidly growing labour and litigation practice groups. The primary focus of this position will be to assist with file and workflow oversight for all our investigations as well as gathering of evidence and information and direct involvement in some of the investigations. The secondary focus for this position will be paralegal support for our labour litigation and employment law litigation. Our ideal candidate is tech savvy, with strong file management skills, investigations, litigation and/or labour experience, and a desire and willingness to be part of the team on all workplace-related legal claims.

Your Key Responsibilities
You will work closely with our workplace investigators and litigators as a team in:
• coordinating intake for new investigations
• gathering and organizing information and documents for the investigations
• communicating with parties to schedule interviews
• gathering and summarizing evidence
• managing document disclosure and discovery
• preparing application materials
• diarizing important dates
• communicating with clients and witnesses
• drafting, revising, and proofreading pleadings, correspondence and other legal documents
• scheduling court dates, examinations for discovery, and mediations
• assisting with and preparing for hearings and trial
• generally keeping files running smoothly
Your Skills
• You have at least three years’ experience relevant to litigation or investigations case management, which may include experience in labour, employment law, human rights or workplace investigations;
• You are exceptionally well organized and have a demonstrated ability to effectively manage a high volume of information, documents, and competing deadlines;
• You have experience interacting respectfully with a diverse population, including fielding inquiries and gathering information;
• You have solid tech skills, including data management in Excel and experience formatting large documents including compiling exhibits;
• You have experience in unionized workplaces/basic understanding of labour law (not required but an asset)
• You have strong working knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules, and BC Provincial Court Rules and forms (knowledge of civil procedure rules in Alberta is not required but an asset);
• You thrive in a collaborative environment and have strong communication skills to ensure all parties are kept up to speed at all times;
• You are adaptable and flexible in your day and happy to support the team when needed;
• You have a curious nature, take initiative, think things through and enjoy being part of the process;
• You are passionate about workplace law;
This position is full-time. We are open to remote work, and our preference is someone who can work at least 3 days per week out of our office in Surrey. We expect full-time work in office for the first 3 months while you get to know our team and systems. Compensation will depend on qualifications and experience and is expected to be in the range of $30 to $40 per hour.
