Our small law firm, located in downtown Vancouver, is seeking an associate with 1 to 4 years of call. We represent the Ministry of Children and Family Development in its essential role of protecting children and improving the lives of families.
Responsibilities:
- Frequent court appearances at child protection remand list days, court settlement conferences, and hearings
- Management of all aspects of court involved files, including preparation of witnesses, trial books and legal submissions
- Regular participation in collaborative meetings and mediations
- Provide summary legal advice and information
- Review and vetting of Ministry files to disclose to opposing counsel
Qualifications/Skills:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Persuasive oral advocacy skills
- Professional attitude and strong personal ethics
- Ability to work with highly confidential information
- Enjoy working as part of our team as well as independently
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail Child protection, family law or criminal law experience is desirable
