Policy Counsel

The Federation of Law Societies of Canada (the “Federation”) is seeking a lawyer with policy development experience to join our team of Policy Counsel.

The Federation is the national association of the 14 law societies mandated by the provinces and territories to regulate Canada’s legal profession in the public interest. It is the body through which Canada’s law societies collaborate at the national level, share information on trends and issues affecting the legal profession, and engage in collective action and decision-making. The Federation is also the law societies’ national and international voice on important issues related to the regulation and core values of the legal profession.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Policy and Public Affairs, the successful candidate will provide input and advice on a broad range of policy matters by conducting research, preparing briefing materials, reports, and submissions, and supporting policy committees.

Candidates must be a member in good standing of a Canadian law society.

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Involvement in a professional regulatory or association environment is desirable, but not required. Knowledge of the machinery of government will be a definite asset. The ideal candidate will be bilingual, possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills in at least one of Canada’s official languages, and demonstrate superior analytical skills, sound judgment and political acumen, as well as a strong client service orientation and the ability to thrive in a team environment.

If this Ottawa and office-based opportunity is of interest to you, please forward a covering letter indicating how you meet the requirements of the position, along with your resume, to Alex Bolt, Executive Director, Policy and Public Affairs at abolt@flsc.ca before February 28, 2025.
