Family Law Associate Position
We are seeking a lawyer with a strong interest in family law. Experience is preferred. Our firm offers a competitive compensation package based on billable hours, commensurate with experience. This is a Full Time position with an immediate or negotiable starting date.
Responsibilities and Duties
-Draft documents including motion records, factums legal memoranda, opinions, contracts, pleadings and other legal documents on behalf of clients
-Appearances before the Ontario Court and Superior Court of Justice on behalf of clients
Qualifications and Skills
- Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with LSO with LL.B or J.D. from a recognized Institution with excellent academic credentials
- Self-starter with superior organizational and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to network and problem solve
- Experience in private practice preferred in all aspects of family law, including but not limited to: Rules of Civil Procedure and Family Law Rules as well as court proceedings and processes, Legal Separation and Property Division, Contested and uncontested divorce, Custody and Access, Support and Maintenance, Prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements
- A working knowledge of wills and estates law is considered to be a great asset
- Able to both work independently but also to work closely with the other members of our team
- Ability to contribute to a positive team environment
- Keen attention to detail and able to meet tight deadlines
- Interest in working in the Durham region in multiple locations
