As a result of an internal promotion of an existing Legal Department team member to a more senior position within the Brandt Group of Companies, Brandt is looking for a practical and entrepreneurial minded individual to fill a Legal Counsel position located in Brandt’s Regina Head Office. About The Role

Brandt’s Legal Team consists of a Chief Legal Officer, a Legal Counsel dedicated to Corporate/Commercial work, a Legal Counsel dedicated to Dispute Resolution work and a Legal Assistant dedicated to organizing the Legal Department’s activities.

With Brandt’s continued growth throughout Canada, the United States and recent entry into Australia and New Zealand, you will be responsible for providing corporate and commercial legal and business advice to members of Brandt’s senior management team around the world. The successful candidate will be expected to succeed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Specific tasks to be performed by the Legal Counsel will include the following:
  • Commercial Legal Matters:
    • Assisting in mergers and acquisition activities by: (i) working with Brandt’s Investments group in drafting all applicable legal documentation associated with a transaction; (ii) conducting due diligence; (iii) participating in negotiations; and (iv) assisting in all other related transaction tasks including integration matters;
    • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements with third parties related to Brandt’s dealership and manufacturing businesses;
    • Supporting the acquisition and divestiture of real property throughout Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand including the negotiation of leases;
    • Supporting Brandt’s procurement, engineering and development team with construction contracts, RFPs and other agreements related to greenfield developments; and
    • Supporting Brandt’s information technology team with respect to procurement of information technology goods and services.
  • Compliance:
    • Overseeing regulatory compliance matters for the Brandt Group of Companies and providing proactive advice on new developments in applicable laws to Brandt’s senior management;
    • Working with other Brandt support functions to draft Brandt policies, practices and procedures;
    • Overseeing Brandt’s Privacy Policy; and
    • Assisting in internal investigations.
The position will be located in Regina, Saskatchewan at Brandt’s Head Office.

You will have 1 to 5 years at the Bar. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge, skill, and competence will be considered.

Required Skills

  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong ability to interpret, summarize and confidently communicate information both verbally and in writing in a concise and business friendly manner.
  • High level of analytical skills, judgment, and innovative ability.
  • Current member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan (or another Canadian jurisdiction) in good standing.
