We are currently seeking a litigation lawyer to join our legal department as Corporate Counsel reporting to the Assistant General Counsel. What You'll Do...
- Prepare pleadings and other legal documents required for civil litigation and administrative tribunal matters.
- Prepare policies and other documents that govern or relate to the claim and litigation process.
- Identify potential legal and/or regulatory issues and partner cross-functionally with the necessary business units to identify and implement appropriate solutions
- Provide ongoing legal advice to applicable business units
- Represent Walmart as legal counsel before the civil courts, administrative tribunals or other governmental or regulatory bodies, as may be required.
- Support for cross-functional initiatives through provision of legal and business advice.
- Educate and train on legal requirements within the business, in partnership with business stakeholders and/or Compliance where applicable.
- Effectively manage external counsel where engaged.
- Identify and implement efficient ways of working both within and outside the legal department
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-8 years of litigation experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department dealing with a variety of commercial litigation, personal injury and administrative law matters. Prior experience advising on privacy related matters would be an asset. Excellent drafting and negotiating skills, as well as the ability to handle a high volume of competing demands, are essential. Your duties will include:
- Advising on a wide range of day-to-day litigation issues,
- Direct handling and/or supervising external counsel on litigation files
- Assisting in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures, and
- Providing advice and support on various strategic projects.
Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills are important as you will have extensive interaction with various business groups.
