Director of Business Development

Director of Business Development

At Caravel Law, we do business differently. We don’t have a fancy office (although our space is pretty cool). We don’t layer lawyers on files or pad bills with unnecessary overhead (but we do offer fixed fees, and leverage tech-enabled tools to increase efficiencies).

Why do our impressive roster of Lawyers choose to work with us?

  • We separate the business of law from the practice of law, leaving our lawyers to focus on providing expert advice to our clients, while all the core business functions involved with running a law firm are performed by our head office
  • Caravel does not set specific targets with respect to billable hours – our lawyers let us know how much or how little they would like to work
  • While our lawyers work remotely, we operate as a team and promote a collaborative and inclusive culture

To keep pace with our rapid and accelerating growth, we need a driven, dynamic and motivated British Columbia based Business Development Professional (Part-time/Independent Contractor, possibly leading to full time) to seize upon our expanding client opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop new business through lead generation initiatives
  • Arrange and participate in meetings with prospective clients
  • Close new client relationships
  • Input client prospects and actively update client data in CRM database
  • Work with Chief of Staff to manage existing client relationships, and to prepare and respond to RFPs of interest to the Firm and to identify appropriate lawyers for new client mandates
  • Represent Caravel at general networking events, including hosting and speaking engagements
  • Act as an internal advocate and catalyst on the importance of involvement in sales and marketing activities

The ideal candidate should have the following skills:
  • 5+ years of proven Business Development experience within a professional services firm environment
  • Extremely bright and articulate
  • A self-starter attitude and drive is certainly a prerequisite for this role
  • A proven track record of establishing new relationships with decision makers at an executive (CEO, CFO, VP) level
  • Confidence and integrity to earn client and internal team confidence
