Legal Counsel

As the Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for preparing, reviewing and negotiating agreements and other documents while advising business units within the company on a broad range of legal issues.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, review and negotiate commercial and transactional documents. This includes contracts with dealers, customers, and suppliers; RFPs and procurement agreements; and other related documents.
  • Provide legal advice to business units on legal matters of varying complexity, in such areas as on privacy, advertising, marketing, and product liability; competition law, technology licensing; trademarks and other intellectual property; employment law; and corporate governance
  • Respond to inquiries with respect to interpretation of legislation and regulations affecting the company
  • Handle legal disputes, manage litigation files, and liaise with outside legal counsel
  • Manage legal compliance programs and participate in internal administrative procedures
  • Prepare legal opinions and reports
  • Conduct research on various legal matters
  • Assist General Counsel as needed
  • Participate in cross-functional corporate teams as required

To Succeed, You Will Need:

  • LLB or JD from a recognized University
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • A minimum of 3 years of related work experience in corporate law department
  • Ability to review and analyze contracts, apply legal principles, and assess risks to Canon’s business
  • Excellent Project/process management skills to follow-up with business units and customers during contract process, escalate issues, and lead legal projects
  • Strong ability to balance conflicting priorities for all business units and meet all deadlines to prevent negatively impacting business operations
  • Experience with a Document Management System
  • Good computer/technical skills to conduct research, use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

HYBRID WORK

  • This position offers a Hybrid work schedule. You will be required to be in the office Mondays and Wednesdays each week, with the ability to work from home for the remainder of the week (subject to specific business needs requiring office attendance).
  • When working from home, a reliable internet connection is required. Remote work is supported with cloud-based applications and collaboration tools
