(Sexual Harassment Advice, Response and Prevention for Workplaces)

The Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS) is seeking a full-time Advocate position for the SHARP Workplaces Legal Clinic. This is a defined-term position until March 31, 2027.

Located on the unceded territories of the ʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations in what is now known as Vancouver, CLAS provides free legal services to disadvantaged people throughout British Columbia through its seven programs: the Mental Health Law Program, the Community Advocate Support Line, the Community Law Program, the Community Legal Advocate Supervising Pilot Program, the BC Human Rights Clinic, the Stand Informed Legal Clinic, and the SHARP Workplaces Legal Clinic.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This is a full-time, defined-term position until March 31, 2027. The role of the Advocate is to guide and assist clients of the SHARP Workplaces Legal Clinic to access relevant services and resources and to help them navigate through their options, so that clients can access supports they need and may be able to pursue a legal option. This position may be required to work the occasional weekend or evening.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide client-centered, trauma-informed guidance and assistance to clients as required;
• Connect clients with ancillary services, such as counselling, housing, and employment;
• Assist clients with navigating any legal process they may choose to pursue;
 • Assist clients with completing forms, organizing or identifying documents, and creating timelines;
• Help clients draft or file a complaint;
• Build and maintain relationships with external organizations and stakeholders;
• Identify areas where SHARP Workplaces can support partnering organizations through training, development of public legal education and information materials;
• Assist with preparing and delivering educational sessions to community organizations and the public;
• Assist with intakes for the Clinic;
• Arrange interpreters to communicate with clients as required;
• Ensure client/case data entered in case management system in an accurate and timely manner; and
• Such other duties may be required in the provision of support to SHARP Workplaces.

General Administrative and Other Duties
• Maintain client files and records;
• Assist with preparing reports; and
• Carry out general office and administrative duties, as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
• 1 – 2 years of experience working in a public-facing advocacy role, support role with women and genderdiverse people, or other legal sector position;
• Certificate or diploma in law, social work or paralegal program (an asset);
• Working knowledge of human rights, workers’ compensation, and other relevant legislation;
• Working knowledge of community resources and legal systems and options;
• Awareness and understanding of ongoing and systemic issues affecting vulnerable populations;
• Awareness of the impacts of gender-based violence and sexual assault and their impacts;
• Sensitivity, empathy and an ability to deal with a diverse range of people in a friendly, compassionate and trauma-informed manner;
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• Strong ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner;
• Ability to take initiative and be self-directed;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment;
• Familiarity with video-conferencing technology, e.g., Zoom and MS Teams, and high proficiency with MS Office;
• Lived experience as an Indigenous, racialized, non-binary, and/or person living with a disability is an asset; and
• Language skills other than English are an asset.

COMPENSATION:
CLAS offers medical, dental, and extended health benefits after three months of employment, a defined benefits pension plan after one year of continuous employment, fifteen paid annual sick days, a generous vacation allowance and bonus days off during the holiday season. CLAS has a hybrid work model of working remotely as well as in the office. The salary range is between $63,495 to $73,605 depending on skills and experience.

START DATE:
The preferred start date for this position is as soon as possible.
