Your role
The paralegal assists the legal team of the Legal Services in labor and employment in our Montreal office.
More specifically, you will:
- Coordinate office activities, as well as establish priorities and urgent procedures for the legal team.
- Provide assistance throughout all stages of legal proceedings, compile basic data to facilitate requests for information.
- Prepare, write, finalize and send all documents pertaining to disputes with the parties involved, including serving and filing with the various Courts, ensuring that deadlines are met and ensure the follow-up.
- Do legal research when required.
- Participate in preparatory meetings before hearings when required.
- Maintain agendas; arrange meetings, travel and conference calls; and complete expense accounts and keep copies.
- Take care of data entry, review, copyedit and carefully proofread a variety of documents.
- Follow up on external mandates as well as budgets when required.
- Provide assistance with various administrative or adjacent tasks related to the proper functioning of the legal sector.
- Take part in various types of projects as needed.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- A diploma in Paralegal Technology, a certificate from an accredited legal program or any other combination deemed pertinent
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience as a paralegal and/or five (5) years of experience as a legal assistant in labour law and/or in legal disputes
- Very good knowledge of the Windows environment
- Good knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and email
- Superior French-language skills (spoken and written)
- Good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
- A great sense of organization, the ability to be thorough and who is detail-oriented
- The capacity to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times, interpersonal skills and diplomacy
- Ability to work under pressure
