The creator economy and viewership on social media platforms are continuing to grow exponentially as brands pivot their advertising spending away from traditional broadcast media and into digital.

We have built proprietary technologies leveraging machine learning, digital signal processing, and big data to power our platform and ecosystem. Our key revenue streams represent the most relevant and scalable opportunities for monetization of digital IP including Web 3.0, Direct Advertising Sales, SaaS, and Mobile Gaming Apps. 

We are currently seeking an experienced, business minded commercial solicitor with knowledge and experience in the digital media, entertainment, or tech industries to join our Legal team. The candidate must have experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts, and, in particular, IP licensing agreements..  Other important competencies include regulatory and compliance matters (e.g. privacy, data security, advertising, rights clearances). The successful candidate will have approximately 3-5 years of business law or in-house experience.

BBTV is proudly headquartered in Vancouver, BC and ideally this role will be co-located with the Legal team in Vancouver, but is also open to qualified candidates in other applicable jurisdictions.  

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Draft a wide range of contracts including IP licensing agreements, MSA and SOW for software development, Saas and PaaS deals; advertising agreements; non-disclosure agreements, etc.
  • Identify legal risks and find workable solutions mitigating those risks
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of compliance laws and regulations relevant to the digital media industry
  • Assist in developing and maintaining new company policies, procedures and standards as ever-changing circumstances require
  • Manage outside counsel on various legal matters, including disputes and litigation
  • Ensure as part of the legal team that company standards and policies are being followed and maintained

Required Skills and Experience:
  • LL.B. and member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia or licensed to practice in another applicable jurisdiction. 
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of business law or in-house experience, with a strong focus on contract drafting
  • Ability to work with business partners to provide legal counsel relating to contracts in a timely and efficient manner

  • Privacy laws and policies (GDPR, PIPEDA, PIPA)
  • Corporate-Commercial, Employment, Licensing 
  • Marketing, Advertising & Consumer Protection Law 
  • Online Financial Services
  • NFTs, Cryptocurrencies
