Junior Associate Lawyer - Full or Part-Time

Richards Advocacy is a boutique virtual law firm based in Toronto. We service clients in Ontario, and across Canada, in three key areas: insurance coverage & subrogation; civil litigation defence; and external investigations (predominately sexual and gender-based violence complaints, civility and discrimination complaints, and research integrity complaints). The firm is growing, and we are looking for a junior lawyer to assist in all areas of practice.

Richards Advocacy provides superior litigation and investigative services to its clients, with an emphasis on substantive knowledge, keen professionalism, and efficiency. The firm's growing practice stems, in large part, from our referral network of lawyers in the community, and institutional clients. While small in size, the firm's ability to handle complex matters is the result of our highly-skilled, and experienced team. The firm was started in 2018, and strives to provide a supportive, diverse, and fulfilling workplace. We are excited to add a new junior member to our dynamic team!

Skills and experience:

The successful candidate will have had exposure to a litigation practice, preferably with experience from one or more of these areas: insurance-related disputes, employment and human rights litigation, or sexual and gender-based violence litigation. While not required, it would be an asset if the candidate has exposure to workplace investigations.

The ideal candidate will also have:
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in building your own practice over time;
  • Passion for excellent legal services and a passion to learn new areas of practice;
  • Experience of between 1 and 2 years but all years will be considered;
  • An excellent academic record and employment history;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster confidence and build relationships with clients; and
  • The ability to manage working in a virtual environment.

This position is fully remote, however, some travel to Toronto will be required. The position is also flexible in terms of full or part-time.

To apply to this position, please send your cover letter, resume and academic transcripts to: Ashley Richards, Principal Owner, at arichards@richardsadvocacy.com. Please include a brief description on what you are looking for in a new position, and your capacity (full-time vs. part-time), including ideal working hours.

Deadline: November 30th, 2022.

We thank all candidates for their interest, but only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.
